I could really relate...to the homeschooling, the baby chicks, the dead baby chicks, the flowers on the graves...really nice that you memorialized it all....the time goes fast with our children.

Victims share some of the blame because they aren't often speaking up, out of shame or something/ Also, victims grow up to be aggressors with their own children. It's a cycle and if enough people jump off it will end. Good luck sweetie, you sound like your'e on the right track. Just recognizing it is the first step to getting help. take care and make big changes when you grow up :)

I loved this peace and agreed with every word in it. I am bullied on a dayyly basis and it really does suck. Adults act like we as minors have no power. I am 13 reading this and I've been already blaming school and the government for forcing us for going to school. Really it's ironic because without bulling we'd have world peace, the government forces parents to rule over there kids and send them to school, we get bulling, and the idea of world peace was shattered. Alos, you don't need to go to school to be in the government so all of them are inforcing something they have no idea about. Hey minors can't vote, but they have to pay taxes, isn't that taxation without representaion?
But I have to ask, how is the victom in blame; you never explained it. I really need to know about that part or I might never sleep again.

This is a good article to counterbalance a trend in society that indeed causes damage, too much focus on authority. However I would like to add that I get the message from friends and family that I need to set more limits and implement more rules. I mainly use kindness and reasonning. The best thing is to balance the force and kindness. A child also needs to learn that no is no. A child that thinks everything is acceptable is another kind of bully. There is some ground in the middle, and authority is part of life, it should not be central, but there is a point to it.

I found this post so very helpful. I always seem to struggle with the social situation when my child and some one else's child are fighting over the toy. I also find the mainstream 'parenting' advice so confusing in terms of breeding the same as they want to eliminate. I started reading your next entry on not being consistent and now I can not stop reading. Thank you!

I just found your blog yesterday, and had to come back and read some more blog entries today. I just read this one and it's funny to me that you wrote it like almost a year to the day ago but it's just about what I'm going through right now. Were struggling with going from the authorative parenting to radical unschooling...big switch but our kids are still small...if you consider the oldest being 7 small. Sometimes things I am so use to saying "no" to I have decided recently that really that it is o.k. to do. I keep catching myself still saying "no" feeling bad and turning around and having to re-explain and my kids look at me like 'Alright!' or 'Is mom ok?' Being an authorative parent from the get go is almost habit forming I've noticed. My husband is worse than me by far but with him actually going along with the idea is amazing to me. Anyway, I just thought I'd letcha know your not the only one who has decided late in the game to switch it up on the kids. I think it helps expan their horizons LOL!

I get a kick of out talking about my 2.5 year old son's sleeping "schedule" with people. We cosleep and he goes to be when he asks to. Since my wife is pregnant, she's usually in bed first, and I'll do stuff with him until he says its time to sleep - usually sometime between 10:30pm and 1am. Sometimes he'll fall asleep on our way home from somewhere if we're late, and we may or may not be able to transition him into bed when we get home. Sometimes he'll pop back up at 10 after a quick nap and say up until 1 or 2. I'm more of a night owl so that's fine with me. He gets up when he wants, usually 9ish but can be as late as 10 or 11am. We run our business from home so we just roll with it. I'm intrigued to see what happens when the 2nd arrives in November.

I also enjoy it when the shocked people either ask "what will you do when he starts school?" or state "you'll have to make some changes and get him in a schedule before he starts school." I get a mischievous grin and say "school?" :D
